Day 1 - Friday, May 25th
Daily Activities: This is a travel day for the leadership team members. Dinner at a good restaurant is always provided for those arriving early. Who Made a Difference: Several of the team arrived early to start helping with anything needed to get ready for the training on Saturday. John Yockey – actually arrived on Wednesday evening and has been a huge help in the warehouse and running errands for the past two days. Mickey Farris – arrived early Friday morning and spent the day with Tina Arnold finalizing the details of the “2007 Stunt DVD” that will take place on Sunday afternoon. Derek Paul – arrived early afternoon and immediately pitched in to assist John and Mickey in laying the floor for workweek, as well as helping Tina complete the Director’s notebooks. Rebecca LeBlanc – arrived early as well and even took MARTA to eliminate an airport run in Atlanta traffic. Rebecca was a huge help scripting the “Stunt DVD” and coordinating the uniform distribution. Marissa Rodriguez – arrived early as well and joined with John Yockey and Rebecca LeBlanc on the “Staff Uniform Committee”. Tina Arnold – Tina’s day began with an early run to the printing company to drop off originals that we needed to complete the staff notebooks. Tina’s desire for detail and her drive for excellence kept her busy with these team members until we all finally went to Longhorn Steakhouse at 10:00 pm. What did I learn from the FCC Staff today: I once again saw “Servant Leadership” lived out. I love each and every one of the FCC staff members. It was a confirmation of why each of these team members are on the leadership team. My Prayer Today: Dear God, help me to die to self each and every day and be willing to do whatever it takes to bring Excellence to this organization.
Daily Activities: Complete Overview of Workweek Schedule, Director Training and complete walk through of the 2007 Stunt Program. Who Made a Difference: Tina Arnold – I am encouraged to see Tina step up in her new role as the 2007 National Program Director. She laid the ground work for what I believe will be a new standard of excellence for FCC. What did I learn from the FCC Staff today: I learned to trust God, as we were without two key administrative staff this weekend. John Blake is coordinating our first mission trip of the summer and Wendy Barrett has been involved with several graduation services for family members. My Prayer Today: Dear God, thank you for providing the help we needed today to be successful. Thank you for bringing Tina Arnold to our team and for what you have done in and through her. Daily Activities: Church together, Video Production of 2007 Stunt Program, Video Production of the 2007 Impact Cheerleading Stunt Program, Director Training, Coaches Workshops. Who Made a Difference: What an unbelievable day. This day was action packed starting with an incredible worship service at Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula, GA. Dr. Jerry Vines was the special speaker and his sermon “Come Before Winter” in I Timothy was a challenge to each one of us. The Stunt DVD production was a project that went from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm. After a unanimous vote from the leadership team we had a late working dinner and completed the director training and the Coaches Workshops. Who said that being on leadership was all fun and games. A 16 hour day, that is commitment.
The entire leadership team: Tina Arnold - National Program Director A special thanks to the following FCC staffers for assisting with the Stunt DVD: Brett Lotheridge What did I learn from the FCC Staff today: I was thrilled to see a drive for excellence and distaste for mediocrity. Even though the optional choice included a very long work day, each team member was committed to do their best and finish the task. My Prayer Today: Dear God, thank you for the strength and focus to complete a long but productive day. Thanks so much for allowing us to hear from your word today and may each of us be ready for your return.Daily Activities: This is a travel day for the veteran staffers. Finalize all details of workweek. We have an alumni dinner each year to officially kickoff workweek.
Who Made a Difference: Each leadership team member joined one of three work groups. Airport Team – this is always fun at the Atlanta airport. A warm welcome from the FCC team is always a sight for sore eyes. Activity Team – this is a creative group of team members who plan out every detail of Tuesday evenings “Welcome Party.” New for the 2007 Welcome Party, each new staffer will have the opportunity to show off their skills and make an instant impression on the team. Uniform Team – this group will help get us a jump ahead on Tuesday by distributing the staff uniforms to the returning staff veterans tonight.
2007 Veteran Instructors – It was awesome to see such a good group of returning staffers back to serve again this summer. Each year, college graduation, weddings, family commitments and summer school steal members of my FCC family. Thank you vets for returning for another tour of duty. What did I learn from the FCC Staff today: Each and everyday the leadership team continues to roll up their sleeves and do whatever is necessary to get the job done. My Prayer Today: Dear God, on this Memorial Day, thank you for the sacrifice that our troops have made and continue to make so that we can enjoy the freedom of this great nation called America. Please protect and bless our troops as they serve around the globe. Daily Activities: This is a travel day for the first year staffers. Finalize all details of workweek. We have an official welcome party and activity to workweek.
Who Made a Difference: Each leadership team member joined with veteran instructors to compile five working groups. Airport Team – this is always fun at the Atlanta airport. Trips back and forth to greet the new staff members as they arrive. A warm welcome from the FCC team is always a sight for sore eyes. Decorating Team – this group had the gym at Hebron Baptist looking like the official home of FCC, which is so important in creating a fun, creative, and constructive atmosphere. Great job team. Pep Rally Planning Team – this is a creative group of team members planned out the Camp Pep Rallies that will be performed this summer. This is a new point of emphasis for FCC, and if you are at camp this summer, you will truly appreciate this team's hard work! Uniform Team – this group was responsible for distributing the staff uniforms to the first year instructors -- so important to making sure that you have a sharp looking staff all summer! Welcome Team – this group was the official welcome committee for the new instructors and their families. This group made sure everyone was checked into the hotel and the distribution of staff notebooks. A big smile, a "Welcome-to-the-Family" hug, and they are officially a part of the FCC Family and Staff! 2007 First Year Instructors – It was thrilling to see such a good group of first year staffers ready to serve this summer. I could sense the excitement as each staffer as they arrived at workweek. We had the opportunity to see them in action a little this evening, and it's going to be a powerful summer with this talented group serving the Lord.
What did I learn from the FCC Staff today: The act of obedience. Each staffer has answered God’s call for their life this summer. My Prayer Today: Dear God, thank you for entrusting FCC with such a dynamic group of young adults. Thank you for allowing us to use cheerleading to minister to others.May you have your hand of protection on the FCC staff.
Daily Activities: This is the first full workday of workweek. Today starts with material review, which is always a little stressful. Each instructor faces a fine if they do not know the material prior to arriving. From there the schedule is very similar to a normal camp schedule which includes: tech check, demo, orientation, meet the staff, camp cheer, stunt class, home cheer and evaluations. Who Made a Difference: Four Instructors stood out today. Gavin Moy – FCC Camp Director and former Alabama Crimson Tide cheerleader made a big impact in presenting the new “Game Ready” program. Jessica Mayfield – FCC veteran instructor, who now cheers for the University of Tennessee Volunteers, said her favorite part of workweek is the encouragement from other staff members and building relationships with new staffers.
Amanda McMillan – FCC first year instructor enjoyed receiving Christ like encouragement from FCC staffers. Amanda made an instant impression with the leadership team. Derek Paul – FCC Camp Director administered the AACCA training for all new staff members.
What did I learn from the FCC Staff today: Reliability. I was in Tampa speaking at an Impact Cheerleading luncheon and returned for the nightly “prime time” session. I was impressed with the work ethic and dedication to excellence that Tina and the FCC team provided today. My Prayer Today: Dear God, thank you for such an encouraging group of students. Thank you for their willingness to learn and to lift others up. Daily Activities: Hump day is just as rough at workweek as it is at summer camp. Today was an action packed day that included FBI training, jump and tumble jam, jump class, stunt class, cheers and sidelines, mascot training, private coaching, band chants, music routines, daily awards, slow skit rehearsal and many other elective classes. A special thanks to the Hebron Christian Academy cheerleaders and their coach, former FCC instructor Paige Ewing for their assistance in the private coaching class. We also had a lunch presentation from Kaepa shoe representative Greg Hanson today. Kaepa continues to support FCC by donating shoes to the FCC staff and by sponsoring the top teams at FCC Nationals each year. Who Made a Difference: John Blake John just returned from our first mission trip of the summer. FCC conducted the Czech Cheer Coaches Conference. Our team also judged their National Championships. John had already begun preliminary work on the much anticipated FCC summer staff schedule. After our devotional time with the staff John once again helped me orchestrate the most difficult job of the summer. You talking about putting a puzzle together, that is exactly what it is like staffing 80 instructors at over 100 residential and private camps during the 2007 summer season. This is always a challenging job that usually involves an “all night” brain storming session. John had done an outstanding job laying the groundwork for the schedule, which allowed us to actually get a few hours of sleep. What did I learn from the FCC Staff today: Endurance. “Hump Day” is always a challenge, whether it is at workweek or at camp. The staff not only endured a long workday, but managed to have quality worship time at the conclusion of the day. So many times we give God our leftovers, thank you FCC staff for giving God the time and focus He deserves as you prepare for ministry.
My Prayer Today: Dear God, thank you for providing strength for a very long day. Thank you for allowing each staffer to remain focused on the task ahead. Daily Activities: Fun Day. The FCC staff loves to have a good time. Today would prove to be another packed day. Several new items that were added to the 2007 program were covered today: Staff Surprise (mini pep rally), All Music Routine, Game Ready Material. In addition to this another quality day of stunts and pyramids capped off a huge emphasis on what will prove to be the difference between FCC camps and all other camps this summer. Who Made a Difference: Leadership Team This night is always special. Workweek is always topped off by a night of fun and thanksgiving. It has always been a tradition to spend the night at either Dave and Busters or Jillian’s. Besides having a tremendous meal, we get a chance to view the slow skit for the first time as a group. I also have the opportunity to publicly thank the leadership team, the curriculum team, the team that filmed the instructional and stunt material and all others who made a contribution to the 2007 program. Tina Arnold did an outstanding job directing and coordinating workweek. While I visit with each staff member about their summer assignments, each staffer is given a game card to play games and we also rent the bowling lanes as well. What a conclusion to a hard week of work.
What did I learn from the FCC Staff today: Flexibility. The last night of workweek always shows me the flexibility of the FCC staff. Each staffer finds out their tentative summer assignments. Usually it only takes a few hours for some of these assignments to change. The greatest ability that we can have for our Lord is availability.
My Prayer Today: Dear God, thank you for such a productive week. Thank you for each staff member who has shown the flexibility to use their talents to glorify your Holy name. Saturday, June 2nd No words needed... the Adventure begins. My Prayer for the Summer: Lord, I entrust my staff to You. Protect them, Use them, Mold them. May they confidently approach each new camper and each new day with the desire to see you glorified. May we love You completely, being used as a small piece of Your Body, honoring You in all we do.
